BarbConq v0.0.1 - Turn 0
Your goal is to find and capture the barbarian city. You have several different units to help you achieve that goal.
Move units by right clicking with your mouse or by using the numpad on your keyboard.
Your goal is to find and capture the barbarian city. You lose if all your units are killed by barbarians.
There are six types of units in the game:
Scout
Recon Unit Strength: 1 Scouts can't attack. |
Warrior
Melee Unit Strength: 2 |
Archer
Archery Unit Strength: 3 Archers get bonuses defending hills and cities. |
Chariot
Mounted Unit Strength: 4 Chariots get bonuses attacking axemen. |
Spearman
Melee Unit Strength: 4 Spearmen get bonuses against chariots. |
Axeman
Melee Unit Strength: 5 Axemen get bonuses against warriors and spearmen. |
In addition to the strengths and weaknesses of the units listed above, there are also bonuses depending on the terrain: hills and forests provide defensive bonuses.
Each turn, every one of your units can move. Move the active unit by right clicking with your mouse or by using the numpad on your keyboard.
To fight a barbarian unit, move onto its tile (or wait for it to move onto yours).
There are a number of other keyboard shortcuts, mostly copied from Civilization 4.
By clicking on the unit icons at the bottom of the screen, you can create and modify groups of units that all move together.
You can stack your units in the same tile and move them together. This provides better defense, since when a stack is attacked, the best defender against the attacking unit is chosen for battle.
But if you keep your units together all the time, you won't be able to explore the island and find the barbarian capital quickly. And the barbarians are constantly training new units to fight you, especially in areas out of sight of your troops. The longer it takes you to find the capital, the better defenses it will have.
Barbarian Conquest is a free game built on a browser-based reimplementation of the combat system of Civilization 4 (a.k.a. The Greatest Video Game of All Time). I have this completely crazy idea of completely reimplementing Civ4 in a similar manner. If you're interested in helping, please email me.
Barbarian Conquest is open source! Get the code on GitHub. Contributions are very welcome!
I want to thank the following open source projects that Barbarian Conquest relies on:
And finally, if you like basketball, check out my other video game Basketball GM. It is also completely free to play from your web browser.
Your troops are ravaging the city. Killing the men, raping the women, and taking the children as slaves.
Start a new game or close this dialog and see how long you can hold the city.
